Stickers!

The rear axle is done. Things were worse than I expected. Besides the springs being very worn and having some rust flakes scaling off, I found that the bump stops had disintegrated and found their way out of the shock bellows. Oops. That explains why the ride had gotten so much harsher during the past half year or so.

I'll have a full write-up done after I finish the front axle and spend some time ordering the pictures. In the meantime, it's beer o'clock!

You're doing better than me. My cold is hanging on so no wrenching has taken place even though it's finally 50 degrees. I did try starting it and was amazed that it started right up. I assumed that the battery would be totally dead but it was fine. SBC power!

Hey, at least you won't have to diagnose starting issues. ;-)

I was close to calling it off this morning after waking up with a splitting headache. “Press on regardless,” I remembered, took 500mg of naproxen, ate my breakfast, and went outside with coffee to begin the work.

True, I was rewarded with the sweet, sweet smell of unburned hydrocarbons. A smell only a carbureted engine can really get right.

I live under the impression that old carburated engines can be distinguished apart by the smell of their exhaust.

Eeyup, my bump stops were toast when I was doing my Koni shock swap. The OEM ones crumble into nothing after a good decade or two.
